Acrylic painting, costume jewellery and ceramics

Born and bred in Sunderland, I now live in Hawthorn Village where my art practise is acrylic painting, costume jewellery, and ceramics.

Joining Edan 5 years’ ago has given me the opportunity and confidence to further enhance my art through workshops, and skill sharing, giving me an outlet to show my art.

I’ve always been passionate about all things arty, and as a self-taught painter, I take my inspiration from the nature around me, and find it both relaxing and exhilarating. I especially like to paint animals in order to celebrate their beauty, and highlight their vulnerability and innocence, having to share and navigate this ever-changing world with us, humans. I like to think that I’m giving them a voice through my art, a voice to remind us that we need to live together in harmony. I prefer to work with acrylics as I love the depth of colour and texture I can create with this medium, but I also love experimenting with different materials, each with their own unique properties.

I make costume jewellery, using a variety of beads, semi-precious gem stones, freshwater pearls and wire-wrapping techniques, and more recently, my love for ceramics has been rekindled, having taken a few courses over the years. I continue to explore and learn with this medium, my new passion exploring the overlap with ceramic jewellery, and the fantastic and unique designs I can create with different glazing methods.
