    The Soundmirror project is based upon the three soundmirrors that were constructed in 1915 to detect the approach of zeppelins approaching the Durham Coast. These were sited in Fulwell (behind the mill and still in existence), Seaham, (demolished for the construction of the housing estate)

    The legacy of mining in our region has been widely acknowledged in public art works, but very little credit has been given to the women who helped sustain mining communities over the lifetime of the mining industry, and who have been crucial to community survival in the years.
