I’ve always been passionate about art and painting since childhood, and the recent lockdown gave me the opportunity to re-evaluate my love of painting and I have thrown myself back into it - big style! I'm fascinated by colour and take my inspiration from the world around me, interpreting this in my paintings. I find it both relaxing and exhilarating, allowing my mind to explore much more than is just in front of me, either by abstract and impressionist painting capturing the mood I'm in, or painting landscapes and animals fuelled by my love of nature. Of course, growing up on the North East coast I’ve never been too far away from the shoreline, so I also enjoy painting seascapes and imaginary underwater scenes.

I’ve recently been working in watercolour though my preference is for acrylics as I love the depth of colour and texture I can create with this medium. I also love experimenting with different materials, each having unique properties…… such as glass paints and resin, which I enjoy incorporating into my work. I think these mediums work particularly well with my most recent seascape compositions. I tend to work on boxed canvas, and like the raw, natural look of the paint runs over the back edges!

The best response I’ve had with my art came following a village craft fair, when a lady bought my winter scene painting of a highland cow as a surprise for her elderly mother who had quietly commented how much she really liked it!
