Division of Labour

This is a lino print that depicts the gendered division of labour in mining life. The man works underground, whilst the woman's role above ground is primarily reproduction and care of all matters above ground. The female image seems to be asleep but my idea in depicting her in this pose related rather to problems of grief and anxiety that were part of the realities of female existence when so many men died as a result of accidents underground.
