"My work is inspired by the regeneration of the Blast Beach Seaham; used for decades as the disposal site for waste from the mining industry until the closure of the mines in the 90's. I strive to create ceramic sculptures and vessels that encapsulate the journey that this seascape has endured. I use textures and pigments that document nature's reclamation of a foreshore once rippled with black coal dust and detritus set against a backdrop of magnificent craggy magnesian limestone cliffs. This container is dressed with 22ct gold leaf inside its lid – a symbolic reference alluding to the riches that man desires to take from beneath our earth's crust."
