Border force

Border force
Bill Holmes

During a recent visit to ‘High Force’, the powerful water force in upper Teesdale, I wandered past this crumbling stone wall being slowly taken over by natural formations and forces. It is under constant pressure from the hillside behind it and the gnarled tree growing directly behind it, almost on top of it, is placing particular stress on its very existence. Slowly and gradually the stones in the wall are being pushed out of position by the growth of the trees route systems. The walk was intended to focus on the wonders and power of High Force further upstream, but I became distracted by this simple stone wall struggling against the forces of nature, hence the title ‘Border Force’.
