Hand embroidery on organza and found materials
Angela Sandwith
My love/hate relationship with hand embroidery, in particular the stitch known as a French Knot has been challenged in this work. Finding a thick scrap piece of paper on the beach was the starting point. The juxtaposition of the scrap paper against the lush organza, which has been manipulated and distressed with heat; creates a visual and tactile contrast. Time-intensive hand embroidery elevates the discarded scrap paper into an intentional and precious piece of art.
