New Energy

New Energy
oil on canvas
Roger Gadd
The view is from the beach at South Gare and Coatham, Redcar. The scene reminded me of paintings by Monet of Trouville in the 1880s where elegant ladies sit with parasols at beach-side tables. This scene is clearly 21st century with the wind turbines out at sea, the collection of plastic carrier bags and the contemporary figures. Are the turbines attractive pieces of engineering which provide cleaner energy? Or are they an eyesore which threaten wildlife and spoil the view for these visitors?
