Leavings - remnants, scraps, and waste from successive iron, chemical, glass and coal industries from Seaham's past litter the Blast Beach. Discarded tools rust, and textiles fray. Tides soften their edges, sunlight bleaches them of colour. In this work a corner of pit conveyor brackets the colliery that once perched on Nose's Point, above the shaft that carried men 500 feet below the surface of the North Sea for the daily extraction of coal.
