This is a redundant steel cable once used to shunt, secure and operate the loading chutes on Dunstan Staiths on the River Tyne.
Reputed to be the largest timber structure in Europe, it loaded coal from the Durham Coalfields directly onto waiting colliers.
Opened in 1893 it closed in 1980 it is now Grade ll listed and a protected monument.
