The Underwater Forest

The Underwater Forest
Claire Smithson-Homer
This abstract work explores the underwater world of kelp forests as places of quiet strength and resilience. Layered textures and muted green-blue tones evoke slow movement, filtered light, and the sense of being held beneath the surface. The painting reflects kelp as both environment and metaphor — adaptable, grounding, and enduring in shifting conditions. Created through an intuitive, sensory-led process, the work draws on lived experience of heightened perception and regulation, inviting the viewer to pause, breathe, and experience the restorative calm of submerged spaces.
