Carbonate Cosmos

This photograph is of a fairly uniform and uninspiring block of Magnesian Limestone on the Blast Beach in Seaham. By enhancing the colours and contrast of the image the true beauty of the rock starts to emerge.
It is fascinating to see the abstract pattern resulting from the variations in colours, textures and shapes that have been created by the deposition conditions in which the rock was formed, the subsequent chemical and physical weathering and erosion of the rock and the more recent scratches and abrasions that mark the rock surface.
All contribute to produce a brooding dark abstract image in which many things can be seen.
