Barclay House

One of a series of 5 watercolour paintings of buildings local to the EDAN Gallery in Seaham.
Bath Terrace was designed in 1848 by the prominent Newcastle architect John Dobson known for works such as Newcastle Central Station. It was part of a visionary development plan, led by the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, to expand and improve Seaham as a planned town, modelled after elegant terraces in London and Bath. Barclay House was built in 1861 as Woods & Co Bank, becoming a branch of Barclays Bank in 1902.
