Skate
Kay Holborn Bond
The shapes and forms of many of my artworks are influenced by industrial drawings, this piece is no exception. The curved shape inserted into the square outer form is something I had scribbled in a sketchbook that begged for the challenge of making something big and unapologetically solid. Once created, my sons decided it looked like a skate park and so its name emerged and the surface colours became inspired by the idea of both graffiti and the idea of a surface being worn from the wheels of boards and BMX's. From starting as something historic and industrial, the piece morphed into something about youth culture and contemporary sport.
