Light and Dark

Light and Dark - Mixed media. I use materials as metaphors in my art practice and I am interested in transforming waste materials into materials which have a status. They become precious, just like the Magnesian Lime. The repetitive marks which appear on Magnesian Limestone are many and varied. Plein air drawing and modelmaking provided me with an abundance of such marks. In 2023 I was commissioned to produce a light installation for Lumiere Durham, and my interest in using light within my art practice led to ‘Light and Dark’. I developed this project by manipulating and sewing packaging material, then photographing it and creating shadows with various light sources.
