Turmoil

Turmoil
Acrylic-Abstract
Claire Smithson-Homer
Turmoil draws on the collective emotional fallout of the North East pit closures-fracture, pressure, and the loss of direction that followed.
The surface breaks and shifts under tension, echoing both the physicality of coal and the instability left in its absence. This is not a fixed landscape, but one in motion, where something is collapsing, while something else begins to force its way through.
Within Beyond Coal, the work reflects on what remains after extraction ends, and the energy, unsettled, redirected that continues to surface.
