Pool of blood, mud and tears.

Pool of blood, mud and tears.
Jean Spence
This is an anti-war image. It refers to the First World War but what it signifies is true of all war. The central printed image is of a group of poor, barefoot boys from Sunderland in the early years of the 20th century who reached the age for service as the First World War erupted. They are represented by the soldiers marching in that war transposed onto the top of the piece. The eco-dyed cloth, ink and text additions refer to the consequences of war: slaughter of humans and destruction of all things living on fields of battle.
