Mother Rock

This image is derived from a quick pencil sketch that I made whilst walking on Seaham beach. The shadows cast, and the light from the early morning sun on this very yellow magnesian limestone rock created an image of a sleeping woman. I worked from the sketch thinking about the meaning of 'mother earth' and the way in which the magnesian limestone birthed our local landscape that we just take for granted.
