As The Fires Go Out

As The Fires Go Out
textile with hand embroidery
Neida Pearson
This piece depicts the human cost of coal. It shows hands holding coal, how the coal was used by the blast furnaces of the steel works and how the furnaces have gone out and the slag from those furnaces, now used as land-fill, is being taken over by wild life. This piece also shows how electricity is generated by wind farms along our coast and the future, perhaps, of harnessing the power of waves.
