As a mixed media textile artist, I was interested in researching the frame quilts created by the women of mining communities in the 20th century. The quilts were important family domestic textiles, often helping to supplement the miners' wages. Frame quilting is now on the Heritage Crafts Red List as being in danger of disappearing, but quilting still exists as an art form using alternative techniques. This work references quilt making, including some traditional Durham quilt motifs.
