Blast Beach Shelf

Blast Beach Shelf
Angela Sandwith
Waste from industry and coalmining were dumped on the coastline. A shelf of colliery spoil remains on some beaches which actually protects the base of the unique magnesian limestone cliffs from erosion. High tides erode the shelf and reveal objects in the spoil.Liquid seeps out from the shelf like a weeping wound.
