67 Church Street

67 Church Street
Watercolour & Fineliner
Peter Brewis
One of a series of 5 watercolour paintings of buildings local to the EDAN Gallery in Seaham. Church Street’s Victorian architecture reflects the rapid expansion of Seaham as a coal port and mining town and is typical of terraced developments of the time. Church Street evolved from largely residential to include shops and services as the town grew. The Elves family business has operated here for generations, selling fresh produce, sweets and wool, embodying the traditional independent shops that once dominated the street.
