Refraction (Wave)

Refraction (Wave)
Sculpture - glass and found burnt wood
Ellen Dorans
Kelp is being researched as part of the Stronger Shores project offshore from Seaham. It is intended that kelp could be a sustainable natural solution to coastal erosion in this area by slowing the force of waves toward shore.
The glass was kiln formed over a mould taken from partially dried kelp and is intended to show the subtle textures of the kelp shadowing on the wall behind. This light refraction is also a reference to wave refraction by the kelp lessening the strength of the waves towards the shore
