Marine Shapeshifter

Marine Shapeshifter
Lesley Wood
In folk art sailors often depicted figures with seaweed such as mermaids from mythology as a way of seeking protection. The Stronger Shores project is about the protective power of seaweed and kelp. It seemed appropriate therefore to feature these powerful, mythical sea creatures who were said to have shape-shifting qualities and could be benevolent as well as malicious. My mermaid swims peacefully through the kelp holding her mermaid’s purse.
