Connecting

The research for the Kelp exhibition involved a great deal of close looking. This was aided by macro-photography, images taken on local beach walks and visits, which revealed features of the kelp not readily apparent to the casual observer. My macro-images provided the material for developing a series of watercolours based on the range of patterns, colours and textures apparent in the kelp. The colour contrasts across connecting or overlapping kelp strands highlighted by the combination of light and water are sometimes very special.
