Submerged Seam

Submerged Seam
Sculpture: Glass, wood, and found metal disc
Ellen Dorans
When the pits closed the seams running out to sea were flooded, never to be worked again. This abstract sculpture represents the subsequent decay and loss of the mine workings.
The piece of wood was found on Seaham beach, having been burnt and long subjected to the sea and elements.
