The Carline Thistle intrigues me, it's both ugly and beautiful, It has a daisy/sunflower appearance as it basks in the sunlight, absorbing energy to survive, then closes up tight on a cold, grey day. Tough and resilient living on the cliff top in the cold sea breeze. The foliage turns silvery grey as it dies which complements the golden yellow of the flourishing flowers. The little group I visit daily has grown over the years so is obviously thriving. They live in a position that gives the most wonderful view of the coast. I enjoy their company for a moment or two each day to enjoy that view.
