Awesome Algae
Tony Frisby
Kelp washed up on the Longsands Beach in Tynemouth. The way that the kelp has been left by the tide leaves the three distinct parts in clear view – the holdfast that anchors the kelp to the sea bed, the stipe or stem and the blades or fronds. I love the pattern made by the fronds and the subtle variation in shades of brown, particularly when set against the desaturated sand background.
