The Shape of Safekeeping

The Shape of Safekeeping
Sandra Totty
This work depicts a crow’s nest cradling its eggs as spring begins to emerge. The nest, rendered through layered stitch and fabric, becomes both shelter and threshold—holding life in a moment of suspension before hatching. Crows, like other corvids, are known for their attraction to reflective objects; this behaviour is echoed through the inclusion of silk and gold threads, subtly woven into the structure of the nest. These materials suggest both instinct and intention, blurring the boundary between the natural and the precious.
