A Cracking Coastal Creation - celebrating the beauty of nature

There is a natural beauty in the variation of patterns and textures created during the deposition and subsequent weathering of the Magnesian Limestone along the County Durham coastline.
It is humbling and exciting to know that the physical and chemical geological and meteorological processes that have worked on these rocks over millions of years can now be represented in an artistic context to produce something of beauty that can be shared and enjoyed.
The colours in this detail from an outcrop of Magnesian Limestone, taken at the Marina in Seaham, have been enhanced to increase the contrast between the blue shadows and orange highlights to produce a pleasing abstract pattern.
