Materials have been used as metaphors in this wearable artwork. White net curtains were widely used in the mining community to keep out ‘prying eyes’. As long as you didnt 'twitch' the curtains as you looked out of the window none knew that you were also prying! A different world existed behind the net curtains. On special occasions my grandma used white damask tablecloths. Keeping them sparkling white and ironed was a major task and added to the workload. Silver pan scrubbers made cleaning dishes easier. During the miners strike the role of women shifted, men took over some of the work normally carried out by women. The wedding dress pattern was drafted and fitted to the male mannequin.
