Artist's Statement

I live in Durham and have always loved the coast and countryside around my home town. This love of the North of England has long inspired my interest in photography but I have often been frustrated in my attempts to capture images that reflect my appreciation of the natural world around me.
I have recently become excited, passionate and re-energised about my photography having identified my own style or "niche" within which I feel I have started to produce work of which I am proud and happy to share with others. I am trying to see the natural world in a different, more unique way by starting to focus on the small-scale detail within a scene that is often overlooked and by trying to see things differently and find beauty in what can initially appear to be ordinary or mundane.
Seeing and appreciating this detail through the viewfinder leads to some striking, abstract and artistic images. I use photography as an art form rather than simply as a means of capturing a record or “stock” image of a scene.
I have recently been successful in having pictures accepted into the Bishop Auckland Town Hall Gallery Open Exhibition, The Station (Richmond) SPOT on the Wall Exhibition and the Inaugural Fusion Art Fair (Great Yorkshire Showground Harrogate - March 2025)
I provided some samples of my photographs when I originally emailed to enquire about membership (on 16.08.24) but would be happy to provide some updated pictures for your consideration
