Acrylic painting is my preferred medium but I like to mix media with acrylics to explore pattern and texture.

Though my usual style is abstract acrylic painting, since joining edan I have developed a variety of print making skills including collagraph and etching. Recently I have also explored the possibilities of creating abstract textile art which is a work in progress.

I grew up in Seaham in the 1980s and 90s when the town was suffering the loss of the coal mines. My further education was at the Hartlepool site of The Northern College of Art. Then in 1999 I moved to Sunderland to attend university. I still live in Sunderland with my family and work as a teacher of art at a local academy. I have enjoyed watching Seaham’s development over recent years and am proud of my connection to the area.

Growing up by the sea I find that I always come back to the coast line for inspiration. Most recently I have been inspired by the sea to create abstract acrylic paintings. I also enjoy working with abstract microscopic imagery.

Being a member of edan has given me focus to develop my own creativity which is easy to lose sight of when working as a teacher and raising a young family. I volunteer in the gallery once a month and have enjoyed developing a range of new skills in the workshops.
