Corbie in Kelp No. 2

Corbie in Kelp No. 2
Jean Spence
Corbies (crows) are a common sight on North Sea beaches, but they are well camouflaged as they hunt for food on the seaweed-strewn rocks and along the tideline. The crow in this lino print emerged in the process of carving and printing what was originally intended to be an image of kelp on the tideline. The camouflaged crow's head revealed itself in the space between the curves of the foreground piece of kelp.
